Police: Teen in standoff threatened to commit suicide

— A portion of Eastern Parkway in Niskayuna was closed off and neighbors were evacuated as police negotiated for several hours with a suicidal teenager possessing a loaded firearm.

The Niskayuna Police Department on Monday, Sept. 10, at approximately 3:48 p.m., responded to a report of an armed person in a home on Cunningham Court. Upon arrival, police were informed 16-year-old James Catuccio was inside the home and had a loaded firearm.

Police were later informed Catuccio was threatening to commit suicide and shoot at police if he was confronted, according to police. Another person was also inside the home with the teen.

The woman inside the home exited the residence without incident “several hours into the dialogue,” according to police. Shortly after 11 p.m. Catuccio exited the residence and was taken into custody.

Catuccio was arraigned on felony weapon charges relating to the incident and was remanded to the custody of the Schenectady County Sheriff without bail. He was scheduled to reappear in Niskayuna Town Court on Wednesday, Sept. 12.

To clarify what actually occurred that night , let me tell you. There was never a hostage, his mon stayed with him for 2 hours trying to reason with him. She went outside , she made a sandwhich, she smoked a cigarette, normally someone being held hostage does not do those things, after 2 hours his mom went to look for her husband , she slowly walked down her street she was never scared or frightened. The boy wanted to kill himself no one else when he could not bring himself to do it, he wanted the police to kill him, when police promised they would bring him to the hospital they brought him to town court instead, The boy asked the Judge if he would please kill him. He spent 8days on one on one in jail before being brought to and admitted to the hospital. He was depressed but finally getting his medication adjusted. The police turned a suicide attempt into a 3 ring circus. How do I know this? Im his mom. I jthought the police would connect me with suicide hot line not call a swat team .So I guess kids in Niskayuna do have problems despite how much they try to cover it up

Now let me clarify something....so this woman claims her son only wanted to hurt himself? Then WHY did he wave loaded guns out of the window and threaten to shoot people on the street? What about that one? There were a lot of other people in danger that night, not just the boy inside. Not to mention the fact that he has been tormenting and terrorizing the neighbors on the street for years. This boy may have been threatening to kill himself....But he also has made MANY threats to neighbors previous to this incident. And his mother is also in the business of making threats against neighbors. There's a lot more to this incident to what this person is stating.

He has not threatened neighbors, neighbors have accused the entire family of things, when the police checked the family was in Maine or Mass when these things allegedly occured. The police told this family that they are tired of the ridiculous calls from neighbors on that Street. Unless your white dont bother leaving your house on Cunningham Court, they are a very hateful bunch.

i would like to concur that you have no clue what you are even talking about. in fact unless you are willing to state facts and come out with who you actually are and stop living behind the fake little bubble that all you "nisky residents" seem to be living behind. My mother being in the business of making threats? you obviously don't know her because she is one of the kindest people that i know, the blonde girl down the street is worse then her with her yelling and hand motions. how are you going to tell me someone who makes threats doesnt do anything when an old lady hits them in the face? as we have facts you seem to be biased in what you are reporting. could it be that you live on the street? if so stop hiding behind the computer and just talk because theres nothing wrong with that its much better for you actually.

He did not have any guns pointed out the window, it was telescope, I left the home, he was calmed down, Then his friends texted him that his home was surrounded by a SWAT team, I know a SWAT team would only serve to scare the hell out of me at 16. He went downstairs and slept for several hours during this "stand-off" He has now been locked in a cell for over 60 days, 24 hours a day, No one to talk to, nothing to read., only deepening his depression. I would like to see the state the person who posted the above comment would be in after this. Jail is not the answer to mental health issues. The biggest mistake I made that night was calling the Niskayuna police. If I were brutally raped in Niskayuna I would not call the Niskayuna police.
