Police: Man stole money from ATM and jukebox

— State Police found a man allegedly driving with stolen money from a burglary the previous day.

The Quaker Inn, located in Duanesburg, was allegedly burglarized on Sunday night with an ATM machine being stolen and its jukebox broken into. During a routine traffic stop the following day, police discovered 90 crisp, new, $20 bills totaling $1,800 and several hundred $1 bills from the vandalized jukebox in the stopped vehicle.

Police arrested the driver, Scott A. Clapper, 28, of Schoharie, and charged him with two counts of burglary in the third degree and one count of attempted burglary in the third degree, all felonies.

Police searched Clapper’s residence after the traffic stop and allegedly found items linking him to the burglary at the Quaker Inn and an attempted one at Jonathan’s Restaurant in Duanesburg.

Clapper was arraigned in the Town of Princetown Court and remanded to the Schenectady County jail in lieu of $30,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Duanesburg Court on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m.

Since Thanksgiving, State Police and the Montgomery and Schoharie County Sheriff’s Offices have been investigating numerous commercial burglaries in Schoharie, Schenectady and Montgomery counties. Police said additional arrests are anticipated related to the incidents.
